An AI front desk for local service businesses
Every missed call should get an answer.
An AI front desk. The first thing it will do is text back the call you missed. In your business’s name, saying only what you have told it is true, before they ring the next number on the list.
- Missed call
Oak Street Plumbing, after hours. No voicemail.
- Checked
Not on the do-not-contact list. Clear to text.
- Texted back
Hi, this is Oak Street Plumbing. Sorry we missed your call. How can we help? You can reply to this text. Reply STOP to opt out.
- They reply
Kitchen sink is leaking under the cabinet. Can someone come tomorrow?
- Answered from your facts
We open at 7:30 and book the day first thing. I’ve passed this to the team so they can text you a time.
- Forwarded to you
The whole exchange, on your phone, in order.
An invented call. The first text is the real one, word for word.
A missed call isn’t a message. It’s a customer one tab away from the next business on the list.
Nobody who runs a local service business can pick up every call. You’re on a roof, under a sink, with a client, asleep. Knight Shift is being built for that gap, and it starts with the smallest useful thing: a text, from your business, before they move on.
How it will work
One missed call, start to finish.
The same steps, every time, in this order. None of them needs you until the last one.
- A call goes unanswered
Your phone will forward it to your Knight Shift line. The line won’t pick up. It will notice.
- The list comes first
Before anything is sent, the caller’s number will be checked against the do-not-contact list. On it means never.
- One text back
Fixed wording, in your business’s name, with a way to opt out. No model will write it.
- They reply
A leak, a quote, a time. Whatever they would have said if you had picked up.
- An answer, or you
A model will answer from the facts you gave it. When it can’t, it will hand the caller to you.
- You see all of it
Every text and every reply will be forwarded to your phone, in order.
What it will never do
A front desk on a short leash.
The worst thing a front desk can do is say something untrue in your name. Most of what we built is there to stop that.
Facts
Only what you told it
It will answer from your facts: your hours, your services, the area you cover. Only the ones you confirmed. Not a guess, not the internet.
Numbers
No number it can’t source
A reply carrying a price, a time or a date that isn’t in your facts will not be sent. The caller is handed to you instead.
STOP
STOP is forever
Reply STOP once and that number will never be texted again, by you or by any business Knight Shift answers for.
You
Nothing you don’t see
Every exchange will be forwarded to you, including what the desk said on your behalf.
Memory
Kept for a day, then gone
A conversation will be deleted a day after its last message. The record that it happened stays. The words don’t.
Limits
It knows when to stop
After ten texts in one conversation it will stop and hand it to you. Two machines texting each other is a bill, not a conversation.
Where it stands
Built on the bench. Not yet on a phone.

Nothing here has answered a real call yet. When something on this list changes, the people on the list hear first.

What we keep
Your email address, your business name if you gave it, and when you joined. Nothing else — not your IP address, not your browser, nothing about where you came from. We keep it to tell you when Knight Shift answers, and for nothing else.
Getting off it
Take your address off the list. It is deleted, not flagged.
